Tattnall Elementary Soccer World Cup comes to a close

The 2009 Tattnall Elementary Soccer World Cup came to a close on Saturday, December 12th with the World Cup championship. The weather did not deter the teams from playing in some very close and hard fought games. Congratulations to Germany who won the lower division championship and South Africa for winning the upper division championship. Final standings can be viewed on the Tattnall Soccer blog under the Elementary World Cup tab.

The 2009 World Cup was a record breaking year for the program with over 140 players participating. Thank you to all players, coaches & parents for another successful season and we look forward to another exciting year in 2010!!

Cody McCamish breaks goal scoring record

Cody McCamish in his senior year this season broke two major records in the history of the Tattnall Soccer Program.

Firstly Cody broke the record for the numbers of goals scored in one season with 23. The original record was held by Matt Smith with 20 back in 1996.

Secondly, in his senior year, Cody became the all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the Tattnall Soccer Program with 43 goals. This is taking into account his time playing on the varsity team from 2006-09. The record was previously held by Hiroki Takahira with 35 goals in his career as a Tattnall Varsity player from 1992-95.

Boys Soccer Banquet Success

Monday night, December 14th we held the Tattnall Boys Soccer Banquet. The evening went very well as we honored the b-team & varsity teams and all those that helped make the 2009 season a success. We showed a collective DVD (thanks to David Wall) of the season which was extremely nice. The banquet was followed by dinner to cap off a wonderful evening.

Varsity Awards:

Trojan Challenge Winner - Matthew Schoettler
Golden Boot Award - Cody McCamish
All Region / All State - Matthew Schoettler, Cody McCamish, Ryan Brose

SENIOR NIGHT - V CFCA Tuesday, October 6th 7pm

Tomorrows game v CFCA will be the last home game of the season and the last for our graduating seniors. We will conduct a special presentation to all seniors and senior parents before the start of the game.

On senior night we have a tradition in which ALL b-team and varsity players make a tunnel for the seniors to walk through as they are being introduced. The players stand in order of grade starting with 6th grade all the way to 11th grade. The symbolism of this is that each year older the players get, they get to see themselves move further toward the end of the tunnel until finally they become a senior and it is there turn to walk through the tunnel.

**Thus all b-team players are required to stay for the varsity game until after introductions have been made**

**All senior parents are asked to dress in what you feel appropriate and be in place at the half way line in front of the hill/bleachers with 5 minutes left on the clock on the scoreboard**

REMINDER - B-team game V FPD (Thursday, October 8th @ 4:30pm)

A reminder that the b-team will play its make up game @ FPD this Thursday, October 8th 4:30pm. This is to take place of the original game scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th. All players need to leave with parents after school and we will meet at the field by 3:45pm.

The varsity will still play @ FPD on Tuesday, October 13th 7pm.

Game Change V Mount De Sales - Thursday, September 24th

Due to the damage done at the field by the bad weather the last few days the game V Mount De Sales will STILL be played tomorrow (Thursday, September 24th). However, the game site has now been CHANGED to Mount De Sales. It will still be a home game for us but will play the game @ Mount De Sales b-team 5:30pm & Varsity 7pm.

With it being a home game for us we will still keep the gate (whoever was assigned for the game originally) but we will not be keeping concessions. Please note that GOLDEN TROJAN passes WILL be accepted at the gate and Mount De Sales passes WILL NOT and every one else will pay as usual.

Our goal is to continue working on cleaning up and making the collapsed wall a safe area to be able to host next weeks homecoming game Vs Calvary Christian on Thursday, October 1st.

Soccer Field Damage

After the vast amounts of rain we had over the past few days, we had some serious flood damage to the soccer field. The concrete wall in the far corner with the 'Tattnall Soccer' sign on it collapsed onto the field with a lot of erosion of the earth behind it falling onto the field. Also the wall that runs behind the home and away benches and scorers table had various parts collapse with the concrete blocks being pushed apart by the flooding.

This will be a very big project to clear, overhaul and redesign the surrounding areas of the soccer field. I will keep you up to date with the progress and the needs of the soccer program as we take steps toward resolving this issue.

With such a good turn out in past years with former Tattnall soccer graduates, this will be a very exciting and well anticipated event.

With the current 2009 GISA soccer season underway, the current Tattnall team has had a steady start to the season and is currently 6-2. They will be looking to continue on as they begin region play over the next few weeks, and would love to have the support of the Alumni throughout the course of the season. So please find a schedule attached and you will be welcome at any games this year.

Mercer University Soccer Work Study Opportunities

The Mercer men's and women's soccer programs are about to start their regular seasons and they have some volunteer work opportunities at each of men's and women's soccer matches. This will give anyone interested a chance to fill their community service hours. Every home match, they are in need of someone keeping the scoreboard and running the music, etc.

So many times, students fill community service hours with a mundane chore. At these soccer matches, they could do fill their requirements while being involved with something they enjoy.

For anyone interested and in need of further information contact Robbie Burns, Sports information Director at the numbers blow.

Girls end of season banquet - Thursday, May 21st

Dear Parents,

The girls end of season soccer banquet is scheduled for Thursday, May 21st @ 6pm. With the many formalities that the end of school year brings with so many banquets, ceremonies, etc, we have decided to make it more informal. The banquet will be held on the soccer field and we will celebrate the season with a "cookout"/"coverdish" style dinner & atmosphere. Nina Damron will be co-ordinating with class reps as to what people need to bring. We will have dinner, activities and an awards ceremony.

Plan on dressing casual, bringing your favorite dish, and comfortable chairs!!

We look forward to ending this season and school year with fun and fellowship!!

Deerfield 7 v Tattnall 1

A disappointing game which saw us start the game unprepared and not ready to play. This was highlighted with Deerfield scoring their first goal just 2 minutes into the game. Half time score was 6-0. To give the girls credit they came out in the second half much stronger and only conceded one goal off of a corner kick. A bright spot was Minx Damron scoring her first varsity goal of her career.

Ryan Brose wins US Youth Soccer Save of the year

US Youth Soccer Awards Gala

US Youth Soccer Goal and Save of the Year Announced

Virginia's Marcus Curaca and Georgia's Ryan Brose honored at Awards Gala
See the videos [
Goal] [Save]

SAN JOSE, Calif. (March 6, 2009) - The recipients of the 2008 US Youth Soccer Goal and Save of the Year were announced tonight at the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the 2009 US Youth Soccer adidas Workshop at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. The Goal of the Year was awarded to Marcus Curaca of Arlington, Va. and the Save of the Year was awarded to Ryan Brose of Macon, Ga.

Hilary Kennedy, host of The US Youth Soccer Show on Fox Soccer Channel, set the stage for the night as the master of ceremonies for the more than 1,000 in attendance. Recreation and Competitive Coach of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Male and Female Young Referee of the Year and the Dr. Thomas Fleck Award were also presented during the Gala and the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame inductees were honored as well.

Marcus Curaca, of Arlington, Va., netted his Goal of the Year while playing with his travel team, Venom, in the 2008 Jefferson Cup in Richmond, Va. The score was 0:0, only a few minutes remained in the game and the team needed a win to get ahead in the tournament. Though he had never done it in a game, or practiced it for that matter, Curaca scored the game-winning goal with a bicycle kick. For Curaca, the goal was personally fulfilling, but most of all, he was proud of his teammates because they always work hard and play together as a true team. Soccer is both a passion and hobby for him and through it, he has learned about the rewards of hard work and team commitment while striving to have fun and compete at a high level.

Ryan Brose, of Macon, Ga., had just turned 15 years old and moved up an age group to play with Concorde Fire Under-17 Boys in a preseason tournament when he made the Save of the Year. Not only was the save essential to keeping the team alive in the tournament, but as a young member of the team, saves like his gave the new team full confidence in Brose's abilities. Brose loves every aspect of the game, from playing and practicing to helping young keepers improve on their skills. He started playing at age four and hopes to always have soccer in his life.

""Winning Save of the Year is a great honor especially since all of the other saves were so great. It is something I will remember for the rest of my life. I think it is also be a great honor for my team, coaches and soccer in Georgia as well,"" said Brose, US Youth Soccer's national Save of the Year award winner.

Varsity Vs Faculty huge success!!

Friday, March 6th the varsity girls soccer team played its annual pre-season game Vs the faculty. In a packed gym with the whole school watching the game was a very hard fought battle. The varsity team went up 2-0 with goals from Haley Andrews and Bailey Herndon. After some questionable tactics which saw the faculty sneak extra players onto the field they found a late breakthrough with Jody Burnett tucking a goal away with under a minute left to play. After some anxious last few seconds, the varsity squad managed to hold out for a 2-1 win!!

The faculty roster was as follows:
Mrs Monk, Mrs Adams, Mr Oxford, Coach Farmer, Mrs Moore, Mrs Chancellor, Mrs McKnight, Coach Moore, Jody Burnett, Mr Sherwood.

Referee: Coach Brooks, Commentator: Mr Hankinson

Tattnall 5 V 0 Sherwood

Tattnall defeated Sherwood Thursday night to open the season with a 2-0 record. A solid first half performance saw Tattnall go in at half time with a 3-0 advantage with 2 pk's from Haley Andrews and and goal from Shelley Green. The second half was a little sluggish with Tattnall failing to find their rhythm. A goal from Kayla Steele and an own goal off a Jessica Cheek corner kick wrapped up the scoring for Tattnall. Again it was good to get everyone playing time and continue to get everyone accustomed to the varsity level.

Tattnall 5 Vs 0 Weber

Congrats to girls last night on a good team performance. With so many new players, it was nice for everyone to get some experience at the varsity level. You may have noticed the song we played after the game titled "One step at a time". This is our motto for this year. As young and new as we are, we will take each phase of this journey together one step at a time. With a good win we can take some confidence into Thursday's game @ Sherwood 4pm.
